BRANDON, Man. – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack picked up a 71-58 win Saturday evening over the Brandon Bobcats to earn a split on the weekend and exact a measure of revenge in the process.
A day after being handed one of their worst losses of the season, the WolfPack answered the bell early and finished the contest strong to move back to .500 with a 7-7 record in conference play.
The WolfPack jumped to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter before
Sydney Teece put a stop to the Bobcats' bleeding by converting a three-point play late in the first.
The second quarter saw the two teams trade blows as TRU held on to the lead heading to the second half. The WolfPack enjoyed a strong third quarter, running to a 15-point lead heading to the fourth.
The Bobcats narrowed the distance mid-way through the fourth, getting as close as four points at 55-51, but Thompson Rivers hit timely shots down the stretch to ice it.
Most importantly those shots keeps the 'Pack in the playoff picture as the conference season winds down.
"You can't panic. I think that comes with experience. I remember in my freshman year being a bit panicky in those situations, so the number one thing is that you can't panic," said fifth-year guard Emma Piggin.
"It's really hard to get two wins on the road so we're happy that we got one at least."
The 'Pack enjoyed a great performance from Piggin, who finished just shy of a double-double, notching 24 points and nine rebounds. Jordin Wilkson chipped in 14 points and Leilani Carney contributed 12.
The Bobcats were led by
Adrianna Proulx for the second straight night, who put up 18 points .
The WolfPack heads back on the road next weekend to face the Victoria Vikes for a weekend series, while the Bobcats head to Prince George to battle the UNBC Timberwolves.
