BRANDON, Man. –
Anthony Tsegakele's all-rookie calibre season continues as the freshman had another monster performance in leading the Bobcats to a 102-84 victory over the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday.
Tsegakele recorded his 14
th double-double of the season in leading the Bobcats to the team's fourth consecutive win, which most importantly keeps the Bobcats playoff hopes alive.
"It was big. As far as offensive rebounding goes, coach told us to crash the boards and it just ended up paying off," said Tsegakele.
Tsegakele and the Bobcats are wasting no time in getting set for a big test next weekend to close the conference campaign.
"I feel like we're playing our best basketball since the beginning of the year, but it's a whole different team and a whole different game so we just have to prepare properly this week and be ready to go Friday and Saturday."
Tsekagele had game-highs in points (26) and rebounds (16) on Saturday as the Bobcats sent fifth-year combo guard
Jaleel Webb out in style in his final home game.
"Right now we've put a good four games together and hopefully we can keep this momentum going," said Webb.
"We're hitting our shots, we're focused better on defence and we're executing better so we just gotta keep this going."
All five Brandon starters finished in double figures as Webb and
Haashim Wallace finished with 22 points each while
Shun Williams had 17 and
Dominique Dennis had 12 points.
Jack Nadelhoffer led the Spartans with 22 points. Ethan DaSilva finished with 19 points while Adam Gehrig contributed 14 points and Isaiah Reimer had 12.
The loss keeps Trinity Western's record winless at 0-18.
With UNBC's loss to Regina Saturday night, the Bobcats leap frog the Timberwolves in the standings and currently sit in the final playoff spot at 5-13, setting up a dynamite series to end the regular season next weekend for Brandon as they travel to Winnipeg to play the No. 8 nationally ranked Manitoba Bisons.
