BRANDON, Man. – The Manitoba Bisons made it a weekend sweep with a straight sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) victory over the Brandon Bobcats Saturday evening.
The Bisons took advantage of the Bobcats at the net by more than doubling the number of blocks put up by the Bobcats.
Manitoba managed 15 total blocks to Brandon's six, and attacked at a higher efficiency in all three sets to pick up the win.
While both teams have already been officially eliminated from the playoffs, Saturday's match brings the Bisons to the same spot in the standings with Brandon with matching 4-18 records.
"Theset two wins feel amazing. I think we just really came together as a team and there was a lot more urgency on the court," said Jaidyn Spencer of the Bisons performance in earning the team's second weekend sweep of the season
"We were just trying to play as well as we did yesterday. Yesterday was probably our best match of the season, so I think we just came out here with fresh minds and reset and just kept playing our game."
Brandon had momentum early in the second set but a 14-2 run by the Bisons on serving runs from Allison Alcock and Kearley Abbott put the Bisons firmly in control of the frame.
The Bobcats mounted a late comeback in the third set but it wasn't enough as the Bisons serve was too much.
Abbott led all players with 12 kills to go with 10 digs. Jordan Hamm had a team-high 14 digs while Spencer registered eight blocks.
The Bobcats were led by
Rayvn Wiebe's team-high nine kills while
Caitlin Le had 14 digs.
Up next, both teams will play their final conference games of the season. For Manitoba, those will come at home against the Saskatchewan Huskies while the Bobcats travel to Vancouver to play the UBC Thunderbirds.
