BRANDON, Man. – The Bobcats were forced to play catch-up on Saturday night and fell 91-75 against the Saskatchewan Huskies in Canada West men's basketball action.
Â
The Huskies took command early with a 19-6 lead in the first quarter en route to sweeping the weekend series to start the regular season.
Â
"We came in hot and came in playing very tough," said Maxwell Amoafo, who grabbed 11 rebounds for Saskatchewan. "We made some mistakes, but we came here to win two games and we accomplished that."
Â
Brandon cut the deficit to 26-20 to start the second quarter, but Saskatchewan pushed back to go ahead 48-36 at halftime.
Â
American import
Jahmaal Gardner willed the Bobcats back into the game with four minutes to go as BU trimmed to the Huskies' lead to 80-70, but that is as close as they got.
Â
Gardner finished with 22 points, while
Anthony Tsegakele had a double-double with game-highs of 24 points and 17 rebounds.
Â
Dominique Dennis bounced back with an 11-point effort for BU. Dennis had foul trouble in Friday's season opener and was held off the scoresheet.
Â
"There are a lot of things I can do better, but I take away the things I did good and build off of that" said Dennis.
Â
Saskatchewan had three players with 16 points each in Nervens Demosthene, Tyrese Potoma and Marquavian Stephens.
Â
The Huskies put their 2-0 record on the line this coming weekend when they play the Regina Cougars on November 5-6.
Â
The Bobcats have a bye before returning to action with a home-and-home series against the Winnipeg Wesmen. Brandon visits Winnipeg on Thursday, November 11 before hosting the rematch on Saturday, November 13.
