BRANDON, Man. – The Saskatchewan Huskies picked up the weekend sweep Saturday night with a 96-32 win over the host Bobcats.
The Bobcats kept it close in the first quarter, then the Huskies started the second on a 19-0 run.
Chelsea Misskey hit a pair of free-throws with 3:09 left in the second, but that and another free-throw from
Sydney Teece would be the only points the Bobcats would score in the frame.
A monster fourth quarter from the Huskies closed it out, but
Noah Garcia's 3-pointer in the dying seconds sent the fans in attendance home with optimism for what lies ahead.
Summer Masikewich and Libby Epoch both put up 20 points for Saskatchewan, half of Masikewich's coming from the free-throw line (10-11).
Third-year guard Carly Ahlstrom had another solid night for the Huskies, contributing 14 points in the win.
Chelsea Misskey and
Adrianna Proulx both finished with seven points for the Bobcats, which were team highs.
The Bobcats will look to re-group before heading out on the road next weekend, this time with another tough test in the #1 pre-season ranked Winnipeg Wesmen.
Tip-off in Friday's game at the Duckworth Centre is scheduled for 6 pm.
