BRANDON, Man. – The Winnipeg Wesmen lived up to the hype Saturday evening by picking up a 101-46 win over the host Bobcats.
The Wesmen lived up to their ranking as the #1 team in the conference in the coaches pre-season poll and it was by committee all night.
The whole team was too much to handle, especially considering the performances put up by Faith Hezekiah, Kyanna Giles and Keylyn Filewich who all finished with double-doubles.
Hezekiah led all scorers with 20 points to go with 11 board. Giles wasn't far behind with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Filewich had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Wesmen shot only 14 per cent from beyond the arc, but it didn't matter as the team finished with 58 points in the paint.
Adrianna Proulx paced the Bobcats with a team-high 16 points while
Bailey Johnson contributed 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
The win keeps Winnipeg's perfect record intact at 6-0 on the conference season while the Bobcats remain winless at 0-4.
The Bobcats head to Winnipeg in two weeks time for a weekend series against the Manitoba Bisons.
The Wesmen will enjoy an extended break, having three weeks off before another home-and-home-series with the Bobcats that gets underway Thursday, Dec. 2 in Brandon before concluding the first half of the conference season on Dec. 4.
