BRANDON, Man. – The Regina Cougars continued the team's winning ways at the BU Healthy Living Centre, beating the host Bobcats 84-59 to open the second half of the Canada West conference season.
Regina has never lost a conference game at the HLC, dating back to the facilities opening in 2012 and Friday was no different, despite a solid start from the Bobcats.
The two teams traded leads through the first two quarters until back-to-back threes from Regina extended the lead to 34-27 late in the second.
The Cougars managed to score 24 points in that same stretch for a 45-31 lead at the half, which proved to be the difference.
Regina shot 47 percent from the floor and 86 per cent from the free-throw line, while the Bobcats converted at a rate of 36 percent.
The Cougars also owned the boards, out-rebounding Brandon 47-26, and were led by Jade Belmore's 15 point and 11 rebound double-double.
Faith Reid wasn't far behind with 14 points while Zoe Hartmann finished with 13 points and Julia Vydrova contributed 12 points.
Chelsea Misskey had 11 points and a career-high six steals, while
Piper Ingalls put up 11 points as well.
The win improves Regina's record to 3-6 while Brandon sits at 0-9.
The two teams meet again Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
