Strong fourth quarter lifts Bisons over Bobcats

BRANDON, Man. – Both the Manitoba Bisons and Brandon Bobcats showed competitiveness but the Bisons held on down the stretch for the team's first win of 2022, taking it 75-67 Friday night

It was a spirited, back-and-forth affair from start to finish, but the Bisons found a way to keep the host Bobcats winless and snap an eight-game winless skid in the process.

After starting the first three quarters red-hot, Manitoba managed to lock down on the hot-shooting Reetta Tulkki, as the Finnish guard had 20 points through the first three quarters but was held to just four in the final frame.

The Bisons took the lead with a three from Lana Shypit early in the fourth and managed to hold on from there to move to 3-12 in conference play on the season.

Shypit finished with a team-high 14 points off the bench to go with six rebounds, two steals and a block.

Four other Bisons finished in double-figures, including Lauren Bartlett (13 pts), Deidre Bartlett (12 pts), Autumn Agar (11 pts), and Emerson Martin (10 pts).

Tulkki's impressive rookie season continued, as the Tampere product had a game-high 24 points.

Adrianna Proulx was impressive yet again, as the senior finished just shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Sydney Latrace finished with 11 points for the Bobcats.

The two teams meet again next Friday at the University of Manitoba's IGAC.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
