LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – After a thrilling performance on Thursday the Bobcats were unable to carry the momentum into Friday's game against the Huskies.
Saskatchewan started the post-season a day later than the Bobcats and the Huskies took full advantage en route to a 101-76 win.
It was the Huskies playoff debut, coming into the Canada West playoff tournament as the fourth seed and bypassing the first round. The Huskies were energetic on defence from the tip through all four quarters, and for the Bobcats the shots weren't falling the way they were the day before.
The Huskies shot 12-for-24 from three while the Bobcats shot 29.4 percent from beyond the arc, but it was the timely runs and timely stops the lifted the Huskies to the win.
"We lost to a better team," says coach
Gil Cheung. "They were fresher, they were live, they defended really well, they were active. We couldn't make a couple shots early and they jumped out on us."
Bobcat alum Chad Jacobson led the Huskies on the bench and in the win.
"Our guys competed for 40 minutes," said Huskies assistant coach Chad Jacobson. "We talked about putting together a full 40 minutes from start to finish and I thought that the guys brought that from opening tip until the end of the game. They played so hard and they did that together for a full game."
Marquavian Stephens led all scorers with 30 points while Alexander Dewar finished with 18 points. Chan De Ciman had 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Bobcats were led by
Jahmaal Gardner's team-high 26 points.
Anthony Tsegakele finished with 21 points.
The loss brings an end to the Bobcats' season while the Huskies get set to play the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday.
