Late game heroics help Herd to unlikely win

BRANDON, Man. – Late-game heroics from Isaac Miller-Jose and Mason Kraus helped the Manitoba Bisons to a come from behind 85-84 victory over the Bobcats Friday night.

The Bobcats led by six points with just over a minute left. Miller-Jose hit a three to trim the deficit before Kraus stole the ball and found Miller-Jose in the corner for another three to tie it.

Kraus hit a free-throw with seconds left before a last second attempt wouldn't fall, icing it for the Bisons.

"It's why I love basketball," said Miller-Jose following the game.

"That's the close kind of games that make it so exciting, so that's the stuff that I love."

Miller-Jose finished with 19 points on the night, with those six proving to be the difference.

"Still kind of processing it. I think I'm going to go watch the film because it all happened so fast," said Anthony Tsegakele.

The third-year Bobcat had another impressive performance, registering his 35th career double-double (26 points, 19 rebounds) but was still processing what happened in the final minute.

Rookie sensation Simon Hildebrandt led the Bisons with 21 points.

Brandon's Jahmaal Gardner also finished with 21 points on the night.

The Bobcats had a very slow start from the Bobcats. Eli Ampofo hit a three with 3:28 in the first to give the Bobcats a shot of life after a 15-0 run from the Bisons.

The 'Cats continued to claw back into it through-out the second before tying it at 32-32.

The two teams were close for the duration of the second half before the late surge that turned the tide for Manitoba.

The win improves the Bisons' record to 10-1 on the season and keeps them firmly atop the Canada West conference standings.

The Bobcats sit at 8-5 and quickly look to regroup ahead of Saturday's rematch.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Healthy Living Centre.
