Offensive struggles hurt against Cougars

The MRU Cougars women's basketball team held the Bobcats to a season-low in their Friday night matchup, 62-30.

Brandon struggled to find the basket through the first half, the ball bouncing everywhere but in.

MRU saw an incredible performance spread across 11 players, with the bench combining for 35 points.

Nora Luca was a big player from early on, igniting the energy in the stands when her layup did a 720 rotation on the rim before dropping. First year Tony Fuchsbauer also saw time on the floor, finishing with a season high seven and a half minutes played and her first points of the season.

Jordan Blaskin put on a show herself, with eight rebounds, two steals and 10 points on the board.

This squad was unstoppable, boasting a 26 point lead by half time. The second quarter alone saw the Cougars put up 24 points while holding Brandon to only four.

Luca quickly became double-teamed in the paint but used her power to push through the wall and draw fouls in her favour. She finished the night with 11 points and five rebounds. Her performance earned her the title of player of the game.

The visitors were led by Noah Garcia in the post, finishing the night with nine points and four rebounds, putting up a fierce battle against a strong Cougar offence.

Brandon made an impressive fourth quarter comeback, closing the massive gap made early on by Mount Royal, but unfortunately it was too little too late, the Cougars couldn't be contained.

Mount Royal now improves their record to 10-7 while Brandon continues to fight for their first win of the season, falling to 0-17.

Both teams are back in Kenyon Court for a Saturday evening showdown starting at 5 p.m.
