The Brandon University Bobcats took a big win over the MRU Cougars men's basketball team by a score of 102-81.
Brandon came out hot, with a quick seven unanswered in the first minute of play.
The Bobcats seemed almost automatic from all areas of the court, with
Anthony Tsegakele at the helm. He had the speed and skills to avoid the Cougars defence, spinning into a scoring position in the paint. He finished the night with 25 points, 12 rebounds and three steals on 53 per cent shooting.
Brandon led 26-19 at the end of the first quarter.
The start of the second quarter saw play even out between both squads, but Brandon remained with the upper hand with a commanding 16 point lead over Mount Royal.
Both
Jahmaal Gardner and Tsegakele had 15 by half time, but Tsegakele reigned more impressively having already recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds on his stat sheet.
Ijah Nelson finished the night with 18 points and three rebounds for the Cougars while Watts had 14 points and Tomie had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Brandon maintained their lead through the third, with Mount Royal working to catch up but were caught flat for rebounds and slow to get back on transition to defence.
The Cougars trailed by 25 going into the final ten minutes of play and couldn't make up the lost ground before the last whistle. Mount Royal now drops to 8-9 on the season. Brandon improves to 9-8.
Both teams are back in Kenyon Court for a 7 p.m. tip-off Saturday night.
