BRANDON, MB – The Brandon University Bobcats and Mount Royal Cougars wrapped up their Canada West series on Saturday with a doubleheader at the Healthy Living Centre. Following a night that saw the Men's National Championship banner raised, the programs split the day's results, with the Bobcat Men completing the sweep while the Cougar Women secured their second straight win.
The day also featured a special send-off ceremony for the Bobcat Women's Soccer Team, who are heading to the National Championships next week.
Men's Volleyball: Bobcats Complete the Sweep with High-Efficiency Attack
The Brandon University Men's team (2-2) defeated the Mount Royal Cougars (4-2) in another convincing straight-sets match (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) to take the weekend sweep. The Bobcats' offensive efficiency and dominance at the net were the decisive factors in the rematch.
The Bobcats collectively hit a formidable .420 and showcased defensive prowess with 11.0 total blocks. Tom Friesen continued his strong weekend, leading the team with 14 kills on a remarkable .500 hitting percentage, while Liam Pauls added 7 kills and a team-high 4 aces to go with 4 blocks and was named the Booster Juice player of the game. Setter Kale Fisher delivered another composed performance with 34 assists and contributed to the block defense with 5 total blocks.
Mount Royal struggled to find consistency against the Bobcat block, finishing the match with a .104 hitting efficiency and recording only 1.5 team blocks. Ryan John led the Cougars with 9 kills, and Kale Orr added 7 kills and 3 aces for the visiting side.
Women's Volleyball: Cougars Take Highly Competitive Four-Set Victory
The Bobcat Women (0-4) fought hard to secure a set win but ultimately fell to the Mount Royal Cougars (4-0) in four sets (25-27, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21). The highly contested match featured tight battles in three of the four frames, demonstrating the competitive balance of the conference matchup.
Brandon secured the second set victory (25-20), showcasing their offensive potential. Georgia Johnson led the Bobcats with a team-high 14 kills, while outside hitter Stephanie Miller recorded 9 kills and 15 digs. Libero Brooklyn Pratt once again anchored the defense with 16 digs.
Mount Royal leaned on a balanced offensive effort. Sydney Scatcherd matched the match high with 14 kills, and Mya Morgan and Awien Ngor each added 7 kills. Setter Kennedy Williscroft kept the Cougar offense in rhythm with 41 assists and contributed 7.0 team blocks to limit the Bobcat attackers.
