Brandon MB - Bobcats' Strong Effort in MCAC Futsal Season Finale earns Playoff Spot
Through the first three legs of the MCAC Futsal season, the Bobcats Men's squad found themselves struggling with a winless record, sitting at 0-4-2Â and at the bottom of the five-team league standings. But in Leg #4, hosted by Brandon, the Bobcats began to turn things around.
In their first match of the day, the Bobcats faced the Providence Pilots, who were just ahead of them in the standings with a 1-4-1 record. In a dominant performance, the Bobcats secured a 6-3 win, temporarily leapfrogging the Pilots into the final playoff spot. Matheu Ruffini and Victor Andrade each scored a pair of goals, while Victor Lamb and Julien Dizengremel added singles to seal the victory.
However, the momentum didn't last, as the Bobcats faced off against the Assiniboine Cougars in the next game. With a chance to secure a playoff spot with a win or tie, the Bobcats came up short, falling 2-1. Rodrigo Melgar netted the lone goal for Brandon in the tight defeat.
Meanwhile, Providence still had a chance to fight for a playoff spot in their final regular-season game against the CMU Blazers. Down 4-1 at halftime, the Pilots made a strong comeback but ultimately lost 6-5, ending their playoff hopes.
As the season came to a close, the Bobcats finished with a 1-4-3 record, securing 4th place in the conference. Despite a challenging start, their late-season surge earned them the final playoff spot.Â
Playoff details will be announced shortly.Â
