ROY CHING Roy Ching has led the charge in a big way for the Bobcat men's volleyball team to begin the 2015-16 Canada West season and as a result has been recognized as the top male athlete on campus at Brandon University.
 
Ching started the new year with a bang on October 16 as the New Zealander scored a career-high 22 kills on an impressive 33 swings to lead Brandon to a stunning three-set win over last year's national finalist the Trinity Western Spartans.
 
"Roy had one of the best individual performances in Canada West history opening night against Trinity Western. He had 22 kills and zero errors. That type of efficiency is unheard of. He was absolutely unstoppable," said men's coach Grant Wilson. "Definitely deserving of the athlete of the month."
 
Ching has been the model of consistency throughout the first month of conference play and sits second in Canada West in kills per-set at 4.43 and leads the Bobcats with 62 total kills.
 
The fourth-year Bobcat has also taken on a larger leadership role as he is serving as captain of a young up-and-coming BU men's team that lost four starters due to graduation.
 
His leadership skills and offensive talents have been leaned on heavily to start the season as the Bobcats dealt with some key injuries early on.
 
Ching and company return to conference play this coming weekend after a bye week. They'll hit the road to take on the Regina Cougars with matches on Friday and Saturday evening.
