Women's volleyball team scores upset over Alberta

BRANDON, MB - The Brandon Bobcats picked up a big upset win over the #3 Alberta Pandas 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 10-25, 31-29) Friday night in Brandon. The Bobcats and Pandas battled closely in all four sets but the third, which Alberta took handedly. Brandon answered back by taking a hard-fought fourth set that went to extra points.
The Bobcats were led by Shanlee McLennan's 18 kills on 41 swings (.341 hitting percentage). Tori Dakin picked up 16 kills to go along with seven digs.
Fifth-year setter Jaki Ellis had a big night for Alberta, as the Mississauga, Ontario product picked up four service aces, moving her to first all-time in the Canada West conference for career aces. Ellis was one of three Pandas to finish in double-digit kills. Ellis finished with 11 kills, while Krista Zubick had 12 and Dione Lang had 11.
The win improves Brandon's record to 6-9, while the Pandas fall to 11-4.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Brandon in the second half of the weekend series.
