Box Score BRANDON – The #2 ranked Brandon Bobcats beat the Saskatchewan Huskies 3-1 (25-17, 27-25, 18-25, 25-18), extending the 'Cats winning streak to four-matches. With the win Brandon improves to 9-2, while Saskatchewan falls to 4-7.
Second-year outside hitter
Gillian Leech subbed in at 17-14 and served five straight points, giving Brandon a 21-14 lead en route to a first set victory. The Huskies battled back in the second set forcing extra points before the Bobcats'
Meaghan Robertson ended it at 27-25 on a kill and an ace. Saskatchewan persevered in the third, jumping to a 10-4 lead before taking it 25-18, but the Bobcats quickly ended any momentum the Huskies earned, wrapping the match up with a 25-18 fourth set.
Leading the way for the Bobcats with 18 kills was
Shanlee McLennan, who also added 5 digs and a service ace.
Victoria Dakin chipped in with a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs.
Meaghan Robertson finished with a match-high 16 kills and three blocks, while fellow middle
Alexis Loewen added seven blocks. Starting in just her third match, second-year setter
Mary Thomson added 49 assists and two services aces.
Emmalyn Copping led the way for the Huskies notching 13 kills and 9 digs, while fifth-year outside hitter Candace Hueser added 11 kills and 9 digs.
The Bobcats and Huskies will play again tomorrow at 5pm in Brandon at the HLC.
