Women's volleyball team can't stand the Heat

Box Score KELOWNA - Kendra Wayling served up an ace to seal the deal and help the UBC Okanagab Heat pick up a straight-sets win over Brandon University Bobcats (25-21, 25-22, 25-23).

Myrte Schön led the Heat with 13 kills on a .379 hit percentage. Rookie setter Emily Oxland (North Vancouver, BC) led the match in assists with 27. The Heat had 7.0 team blocks, leading the Bobcats by 2.0 despite starting middle Katy Klomps sitting this one out due to injury.

The Cats' Victoria Dakin recorded a team-high 10 kills in her team's effort. Kellie Baker, a fourth-year setter who sat seventh in Canada West in assists coming into tonight, coordinated her team's offense for 26 assists.

Service reception and service errors were major problems for the Bobcats. Brandon committed 11 reception errors and 14 service errors as a Heat offense continually prevented them from gaining any rhythm. However, the Bobcats eventually found success with the tip at the net as the Heat's tip defense was very poor and gave the Cats several points down the stretch.

The Heat improve to 14-7 and are deadlocked  with 14 wins in their race with the Mount Royal Cougars—likely first-round foes in the playoffs—to see who will host the 4th and 5th seed matchup next week. Brandon falls to 8-13 and needs a Calgary loss to mathematically stay in the playoff picture. Both teams square off again tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
