Box Score VANCOUVER - The Bobcats women's volleyball team pulled off a massive upset of the #1 nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds Friday night. The 'Cats dropped the fist set, but then did not look back capturing the next three in a row to win 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 26-24).
The 'Cats battled back from set point in the fourth, trailing 24-23 before blasting off three straight points to end the match on a block of Lisa Barclay by
Brianna Walsh and
Meaghan Robertson.
Brandon middles Robertson and
Alexis Loewen were lights out. Loewen registered eight kills and 10 blocks, while Robertson put up seven kills and seven blocks.
Libero
Donata Huebert had a massive night as well, finishing the contest with a match-high 18 digs.
Shanlee McLennan also finished in double-digit digs with 10 to go along with six kills.
Barclay and Rosie Schlagintweit both put up 15 kills for the T-Birds in the losing effort.
The win marks the first time the Bobcats women's volleyball team have beat the UBC Thunderbirds in a conference game in the program's nine years.
The win also improves Brandon's record to 12-3, while UBC's perfect record is no more at 14-1.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Vancouver.
