BRANDON – The Bobcats women's volleyball team hadn't played a match in less than five sets this year, so a straight sets victory 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-20) over the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack was just what the doctor ordered.
The two teams exchanged leads in all three sets, but the Bobcats were able to close out all three sets late.
Both teams served incredibly tough all night, but the Bobcats seemed to earn the edge from the line, but neither team put up an efficient attack. Brandon hit .136 while the 'Pack hit .115.
Victoria Dakin and
Shanlee McLennan both had five aces for Brandon, while Rookie
Nikki Majewski led the offensive attack for Brandon with seven kills.
Iuliia Pakhomenko also had five aces for the Thompson Rivers, to go along with a match-high 12 kills. Kaitlin Lomas added 11 kills on just 18 swings, good for a .500 attack efficiency.
Kara Twomey added 29 assists, which was also a match-high.
The Bobcats improve to 6-1 on the season, while Thompson Rivers falls below 500 to 4-5 on the season.
The two teams will play again Saturday night in the second half of the weekend series. First serve in Brandon is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
