The UNB Varsity Reds proved to be too much for the Brandon Bobcats Friday night, as the Reds picked up a 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 29-27) win in the team's first pre-season action of the 2014-15 season.
The match featured heavy-hit balls and finesse plays, but also saw errors on both sides of the net. The Bobcats made 20 service errors to go with just three aces, while the Reds weren't far behind with 14 service errors and five aces.
Rookie middle
Daven Pascal was dynamite for the Bobcats, making his first start at home. The 6-foot-8 middle had 10 kills on 18 swings to go with two blocks.
Sebastien Steigmeier had a team-high 12 kills while
Sam Tuivai added 10 kills.
In the day's first match Winnipeg swept Medicine Hat College in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-17).
Saturday promises a full-day of volleyball action back at the HLC.
