OTTERBURNE - The Brandon University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against the Red River Rebels in the final of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference championship.
MCAC all-star and BU co-captain
Jaycee Castle opened the scoring early in the contest as the Bobcats held a 1-0 lead going into the break.
The game stayed that way until late in the second half when Lacey Finnbogason tied it with less than eight minutes remaining and shortly after Kaelyn Vincent notched the go-ahead marker for the Rebels.
"We are obviously disappointed that we couldn't take that final step to win," said Bobcats' coach
Rainer Schira. "We can be proud of our accomplishment and be proud of the fact that we got better throughout the season, but at the same time when you lose the finals and you lose in this manner when it is a very close game and we could have done it, it is really tough."
Red River captures the championship with an undefeated record, while the Bobcats bring back silver medals in just their second season in the conference.
