BRANDON - The Brandon University men's basketball team opened their Canada West regular season with a 104-75 loss against the Regina Cougars on Friday night.

The Bobcats will look to bounce back in the rematch against Regina at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre.

"That is the great thing about basketball, after midnight they will forget about it, we will learn from it and we will look to build," said BU men's coach
Gil Cheung.

Chris Stanhope scored a game-high 23 points in his conference debut for the Bobcats, who trailed by just seven at the break, but were outscored 54-23 after half-time.

Earl Thompson Jr. had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats, while teammate
D.J. Jordan added 13 points.

Brandon product and former BU men's volleyball player Stephen Shields scored six points and grabbed four rebounds for the Cougars, while Regina's top scorer was Brandon Tull, who got 21 points on the night.
