WolfPack sweep Bobcats

BRANDON – The visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack earned the weekend sweep in straight sets Saturday night in Brandon 3-0 (26-24, 25-7, 25-22) to improve to 2-2 on the Canada West season.

The WolfPack's potent offense was on display for the second straight night, as the team hit .296 collectively, led by reigning national player of the year Iuliia Pakhomenko's match-high 10 kills.

The Bobcats battled in the first set, forcing extra points before Thompson Rivers' picked up set point on a controversial net call. Bobcats coach Lee Carter pleaded his case before receiving a yellow card to conclude the first frame.

The second set was one-sided, as the 'Pack led 23-4 at one point. The Bobcats got out of a tough rotation and mustered a few points before the WolfPack closed out the set 25-7.

Set three saw the two teams trade leads, remaining tied at 21-21, but errors late in the set  proved costly as the Bobcats fell in straight sets.

Pakhomenko's 10 kills paced the 'Pack, while Rachel Windhorst had nine kills on 18 swings. Abby Spratt had a match-high 28 assists, while Morgan Kolasa had six blocks.

The Bobcats hit -.108 as a team, and were led by Nikala Majewski's team-high five kills. Brandon remains winless at 0-4, while Thompson Rivers improves to 2-2.

Up next is the WolfPack's home opener against Mount Royal, while the Bobcats will have a bye-weekend.
