Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | With files from Regina Cougars Athletics

Bobcats can't contain Cougars

REGINA – The University of Regina's women's volleyball team enjoyed a convincing three-set victory on Saturday night, defeating the Brandon Bobcats by scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-16 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The win improves Regina's record to 5-5, and the Cougars are now tied with several other teams – including Brandon – for fifth place in the Canada West standings.

Ashlee Sandiford continued right where she left off after Friday's performance, which saw her put down kills on each of the match's final four plays to lift the Cougars to victory.

Sandiford not only had a team-leading 12 kills and hit .391 for the match, but also added 10 digs for a double-double. Diana Lumbala and Jessica Lerminiaux both added 10 kills for the Cougars, while both of the team's middles – Kathleen Ens and Brooklyn Reynolds – had six kills.

Satomi Togawa dished out 35 assists in the win, while Taylor Ungar had 16 digs as she continues to rank second in Canada West with 161 on the season.

Nikala Majewski led Brandon in kills for the fourth consecutive match. Majewski had 14 kills and hit .355, but no other Bobcats player had more than six kills.

The Cougars hit an even .300 in the win. The offence was especially efficient after the first set, as Regina hit .359 in the second and .345 in the third. Brandon hit .228 as a team, with that percentage lifted up by the Bobcats swinging at a .410 clip in their second-set loss.

Brandon will now have a weekend off before playing Winnipeg in a home-and-home, while the Cougars are back at it next Friday and Saturday against UBC Okanagan in Kelowna.

NOTES: The Cougars committed only one service error in 74 serves, their lowest total in a single match since records are available dating back to 2006.
