BRANDON, Man. –
Shun Williams has shown his versatility at various stages of the conference season, but no moment has been more clutch than the big man's big three to keep the Bobcats playoff hopes alive on Friday night.
Wiliams calmly accepted a pass from rookie
Dominique Dennis before pump-faking a defender and hitting the game-winning shot to give Brandon a 96-93 win over the Trinity Western Spartans.
The shot came just seconds before a big stop on the defensive end, and most importantly it gives the Bobcats their fourth win of the conference season and one step closer to the final playoff spot.
"There was a lot of emotion. The season is on the line so I just had to do my part to help secure this win," said Williams just moments after the game.
"We've had so many games that were close losses so it's good to win this close one and give some of the younger guys on this team this type of experience."
The Bobcats trailed most of the game and by as much as 16 in the final minutes before Williams' game winner, three of his 17 points on the night.
Fifth-year combo guard
Jaleel Webb had a team-high 28 points for the Bobcats in what will be his final weekend of home action.
The future continues to look bright for the Bobcat as rookie
Anthony Tsegakele had another monster performance, putting up 27 points and pulling down 13 boards for his 13
th double-double of the season.
Haashim Wallace also contributed 17 points for the Bobcats which included a pair of massive dunks.
Five Spartans finished in double-figures, led by Jack Nadelhoffer who shot 72 per cent from the floor. Nadelhoffer also registered a double-double, finishing with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while so did Andrew Goertzen who contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The two teams will meet again Saturday evening in Brandon to conclude the weekend series, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
