Strong shooting night not enough against Wesmen

BRANDON, Man. – The Winnipeg Wesmen continued the team's winning ways Thursday with an 88-62 win over the Brandon Bobcats.

The Wesmen started the game on a 10-0 run and didn't look back, leading the entire game and putting up 52 points in the paint on 62 per cent shooting.

The Bobcats showed moments of hot shooting, but the Wesmen were just too much, including an impressive performance from former all-Canadian Keylyn Filewich who finished with a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as well as four steals in just 25 minutes of action.

Winnipeg held the Bobcats off the scoresheet for the first six and a half minutes of the game before a trey from Sydney Latrace. The Bobcats managed to hit some timely three's in the second, started by Reetta Tulkki.

The Finnish import impressed, finishing the contest with five 3-pointers, good for 22 points to lead the Bobcats.

Winnipeg held the Bobcats to start the third as well, meanwhile Filewich continued to score at will, starting the second half with eight points in just three minutes of work.

Jessica Van Dyck also finished in double-figures for the Wesmen with 21 points while Jillian Duncan led all players with 15 rebounds.

Sydney Latrace also finished in double-figures for the Bobcats with 11 points while Chelsea Misskey wasn't far behind with 10.

The win keeps Winnipeg's perfect record intact at 7-0 while the Bobcats remain winless at 0-7.

The two teams will close out the weekend series and the first half of the conference schedule this Saturday at the University of Winnipeg's Duckworth Centre.
