BRANDON, Man. – The Bobcats snapped the team's skid in impressive fashion Thursday night, beating the Winnipeg Wesmen 80-70 at the HLC.
The Bobcats utilized impressive team defence, made the most of timely buckets, and provided plenty of highlight reel plays in front of a loud and raucous home crowd.
Anthony Tsegakele finished with his league-leading sixth double-double, putting up a team-high 18 points and 15 rebounds, which included crossing up Winnipeg's big man Spas Nikolov before throwing down a massive dunk just a few minutes later.
"It feels good because it's kind of like last year, in our first of the season losing a couple of close ones. We lost to them twice by four last year. It was good for us to finally get one down the stretch," said Tsegakele following Thursday's game.
"I'm really happy for the young guys that got a chance to play and got a chance to score."
Dominique Dennis also had an impressive fast break dunk, en route to 15 points, two steals and an assist.
Rookie guard
Travis Hamberger also hit some timely threes, good for 11 points while
Jahmaal Gardner had 10 points.
Winnipeg had four players finish in double digit scoring, led by Don Dayrit's game-high 23 points.
The win is Brandon's first on the conference season, moving the team's record to 1-6 in Canada West competition.
Winnipeg falls just below the .500 mark at 3-4.
The two teams meet again Saturday to conclude the first half of the Canada West conference season.
