Career night earns UBC weekend split

BRANDON, Man. – Brian Wallack picked a great time for a career night.

After dropping Friday's weekend opener, Wallack and the T-Birds stormed back to a 92-79 win over the host Bobcats to get the team back to .500 at 5-5.

The fourth-year forward had a career high 31 points, converting on 13 of 15 field goal attempts to go with eight rebounds and three assists.

"It really keeps the ball rolling," said Wallack. "The motivation and momentum we get for the next weekend… it's really going to help us going into next weekend against TRU."

Wallack did it all for the T-Birds, as the team has now earned a split in every weekend so far on the conference season.

This with a bloodied nose and split lip after making contact with a Bobcat player.

"In the first game we forced a lot of shots early on and one thing with Brandon is that we had an advantage with our height and our strength, so through-out the first two quarters we pounded it inside the paint and it really seemed to work for us," Wallack adds.

The Thunderbirds enjoyed a bounce back effort as the team scored efficiently and often.

Coming out of the halftime break, Brandon didn't score until half way through the third quarter.

The Bobcats were led by Elisha Ampofo's team-high 18 points.

The loss drops Brandon's record to 8-4 in conference play.

"They came out tonight and really tried to bully us," said Ampofo. "They really hit us hard and we need to tip our caps to them. They are a top 10 team in the country for a reason."

The Bobcats will look to re-group ahead of another tough test next weekend in the Manitoba Bisons.

The weekend set gets underway Friday at the HLC with tip-off coming at 8 p.m.
