Brandon, MB – The Brandon University Bobcats soccer teams officially kicked off their 2025 season on Sunday, September 7, with a pair of away games against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers. The women's team started their campaign with an impressive victory, while the men's team faced a tough loss.
The women's team started the day with a dominating performance, earning a decisive 11-0 victory. Brogan Henry netted the first goal of the season in the 20th minute, she would later score 3 more to finish the game with 4 goals and 3 assists. The offense was on fire from the start, with the team finding the back of the net consistently throughout the game. The team's defensive unit was just as impressive, earning a clean sheet for the first game of the season. Other multi-goal scorers included Keashae Masters (2) , Kenadie Janzen (2) and Jorja Hoad (2).
In the afternoon, the Bobcat men took the field, but they were unable to get past the strong defense of the Blazers, falling in a 4-0 defeat. The men's team battled hard but was shut out on opening day.
"It was a day of highs and lows," said Diego Alejandro Rodriguez, the new coach of the Men's team. "The women's team came out with incredible energy and showed what they are capable of. The men's team faced a tough opponent, but we will learn from this game and come back stronger."
The Bobcats will continue their season next weekend. The men's and women's teams will be back on their home pitch, hosting Providence University College on Saturday, September 13th, and the Université de Saint-Boniface on Sunday, September 14th. during Brandon University's Homecoming Weekend. All 4 games will be played at the HLC field on B.U. Campus with free admission!
