Box Score REGINA - The Bobcats men's volleyball team started the 2012-13 Canada West season on the right foot with a big 3-0 win (25-13, 25-13, 25-17) over the host Regina Cougars Friday night.
The Bobcats started the match on a 12-4 run, and never trailed once through-out the entire contest.
D.J. McCharles was lights out for the Bobcats, notching 12 kills on 16 swings in just his first start at right side, following an outstanding pre-season in which the Crocus Plains grad earned his way in to starting.
Sam Tuivai picked up 11 kills on 16 swings and added 3 service aces.
Garrett Popplestone contributed with 37 assists, in what head coach
Grant Wilson said could have been one of the fifth-year setter's best matches.
"Garrett was awesome tonight. He served well, spread the offence well, and made Regina pay for some of the mistakes they made. That's exactly what you expect from a fifth-year player and leader, and that's exactly what he did tonight."
Matthew Lueck picked up 10 kills for the Cougars in the loss.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in the second-half of the weekend series.
