Box Score BRANDON - Despite being officially eliminated from the Canada West playoffs, the Brandon Bobcats refused to go away Saturday night as they picked up an upset 73-69 win over the #10 Saskatchewan Huskies.
The Huskies started the contest with a Patrick Burns dunk just six seconds into the game, but that would be the only lead Saskatchewan would have all night. The Bobcats led by as many 16 to end the first quarter, but the Huskies stayed in it all night, eating away at the Bobcats lead and getting back to within two points with just 13 seconds left.
Michael Smith then went to the line for Brandon and hit two free-throws to extend the lead to four. Smith's free-throws would prove to be the final baskets of the game.
Ilarion Bonhomme led the Bobcats with a game-high 22 points and seven assists.
Kenonte Ramsey picked up 21 points for Brandon, while
Michael Smith had 14 points and a game-high four steals.
The Huskies, who played without conference scoring leader Stephon Lamar, were led by Matthew Forbes, who finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Evan Ostertag picked up 14 points while Andrew Henry added 12 points, all of which were three's.
The win improves the Bobcats record to 4-12, while Saskatchewan falls to 11-5.
Up next for Brandon is a weekend series on the road against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, while the Huskies will welcome the Winnipeg Wesmen to the University of Saskatchewan.
