Box Score EDMONTON - After falling in straight sets Friday night, the Bobcats women's volleyball team answered back Saturday with a convincing 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-23) win of their own at the Saville Community Sports Centre.

Newcomer leftside Vaovai Aiono had a dozen kills for the 3-1 Bobcats, third-year left side Shanlee McLennan falling just short of the double-digit barrier with nine as senior setter Kellie Baker recorded 30 assists.

Second-year outside hitter Karly Janssen netted a game-high 15 kills for the home team while Meg Casault, who holds the same position on the now 1-3 Pandas, put up 13 to go with 10 digs. Third-year setter Annie Abbott added 25 assists.

Although Janssen and Cassault continued their offensive output on the weekend with nine kills in the opening set, Alberta attack errors and Brandon blocking made the difference with the Bobcats pulling ahead from a 14-14 deadlock before Baker, earning one of her two kills in the entire match, tipped the ball lightly over the net for the 1-0 set lead.

The second set was more of the same, but more pronounced with Alberta committing four straight errors as part of a 10-1 run by visiting Brandon to break a 15-15 deadlock and take a commanding 2-0 set lead.

Sensing the possibility of staying below .500 on the season, the Pandas reworked their game and found a 10-5 lead in the third set but the nationally ranked Bobcats held their ground and continued to play their system, yielding dividends by chipping away at the deficit and eventually tying the game at 18.

Alberta got ahead twice more by scores of 21-19 and 23-22 but service errors by Abbott and Janssen swayed the momentum back towards Brandon, fourth-year middle Meaghan Robertson scoring the game-deciding kill of the back row of the Pandas, her third of the final set.

The Pandas head out on the road next weekend to aim for .500 once more, but squaring off against a higher-ranked opponent in the No.2 Trinity Western Spartans, while the Bobcats return home to face the No.4 UBC Okanagan Heat.
