Men's Basketball

Another great performance by Reaves in loss to Lethbridge

Box Score LETHBRIDGE – Though they found themselves in a third quarter deficit of 17 points, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's basketball team fought back to a 82-75 win over the Brandon University Bobcats Saturday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre to complete the weekend sweep.

After a closely matched first half in which the Bobcats generally held the lead, the teams headed to the locker rooms at the midpoint break at 43-36 Bobcat advantage.  The Bobcats then hit their first four shots, two from beyond the arc, to quickly send the 'Horns into a 17 point hole.  Spear Chief-Morris started the climb out for the 'Horns, scoring 11 straight points off of three treys and a pair of free throws to cut the lead to eight with three minutes left on the third quarter clock.

The 'Horns ultimately closed out the quarter trailing the Bobcats 63-57.  The 'Horns continued to shave down the Bobcat lead in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, finally pulling ahead with seven and a half minutes to play for the first time since the opening minutes of the game on a highly contested Duce jumper from the head of the key.

The two teams fought to maintain control of the lead for the following few minutes until Duce and fellow guard Logan Reiter hit back to back threes to finally give the 'Horns a bit more breathing room at a six point advantage with five minutes left on the clock.  Waldner's rebounding prowess was key down the stretch as he controlled the glass to give the 'Horns both second chances and the ability to keep possession of the ball and the lead as the clock wound down to a seven point victory for the 'Horns.

For the second straight night Bobcat Jordan Reaves was lights out, leading all scorers, netting 30 points and pulling down 11 boards.

With just three points in the first half, all of which came at the charity stripe, senior swingman Julian Spear Chief-Morris came up with a massive second half to lead the 'Horns with 20 points and eight rebounds.  However, fellow senior Derek Waldner reluctantly stole much of the spotlight with an 18 point, 20 board double-double that launched him into the record books as the Pronghorns' all-time leading rebounder.

This loss drops the Bobcats to 4-14 on the season and they will return home next weekend to meet the University of Calgary Dinos.  The 'Horns will travel to face the 6-12 University of Regina Cougars.  Both games will be webcast at canadawest.tv.
