Box Score WINNIPEG - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen completed a home and home series sweep with a 77-69 victory over the Brandon University Bobcats Saturday night in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg (11-5) defeated the Bobcats (5-11) by an identical 77-69 score Thursday night in Brandon.
Fifth year forward Steven Wesley led the Wesmen with a game high 23 points and hauled down eight rebounds. Guard Jordan Clennon added 15 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Andrew Cunningham dished out nine assists while Ryan Oirbans pulled down eight rebounds.
A.M. Benabdelhak led the Bobcats with 14 points, including three-three pointers.
Jordan Reaves finished with 13 points while
Kenonte Ramsey and
Ilarion Bonhomme finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The visiting Bobcats had the upper hand early on leading 14-11 after the opening quarter. Winnipeg found their game in the second quarter outscoring the Bobcats 22-15 to carry a 33-29 lead into the halftime break.
Winnipeg was 14-of-28 (50%) from the field in the opening half while limiting Brandon to 13-of-37 (35%) .
In the second half the hot shooting Wesmen led by key baskets by Wesley and Clennon outscored the Bobcats 44-40. Winnipeg connected on 15-of-25 (60%) from the field in the second half.
Winnipeg was strong on the boards out rebounding Brandon by a margin of 46-35.
The Wesmen will be on the road next week beginning Friday night at UBC Okanagan and Saturday night in Kelowna against Thompson Rivers. Brandon will take on Trinity Western and Fraser Valley in British Columbia.
