In a reversal of first-half fortunes, Lakehead left very little to chance on Saturday, taking it to the Bobcats right out of the gate, with an improved defense and offense to boot. Lakehead led 29-11 after 10 minutes, the Bobcats looking drained from a quick turnaround since the previous game, on top of not going very deep into their bench on Friday.
Â
Kenonte Ramsey, who couldn't miss on Friday, was held to zero points in the first half, as Lakehead took a 50-27 lead into the locker room at the break, following a half court shot from Bobcat
Mikee Dosado that swished through as the buzzer sounded.
Â
Lakehead kept their foot to the floor in the 3rd quarter, opening up their lead to as many as 33 points, which allowed coach Furtado to get more of his bench involved.Â
Â
Thunder Bay native Brandon Myketa saw 14 minutes of action, and drew a charge within 4 seconds of entering the game in the first half, much to the delight of the Thunderdome faithful and the Lakehead bench. Myketa finished with 6 points and an assist on a well placed pass to centre Brent Wallace.
Â
The performance of the day came from Jonesville, Florida product Bacarius Dinkins, who netted 19 points with 13 rebounds and 3 assists in 23 minutes of play, while shooting 50% from the field.
Â
As a team, Lakehead out-rebounded Brandon 53-23. Lakehead's free throw shooting woes continued, this time going 13-23 from the stripe.
Â
Brandon's
Denham Buchanan and
Mikee Dosado led the Bobcats with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
