Box Score CALGARY - The Brandon Bobcats came up with their second win of the season when they defeated the University of Calgary Dinos in the final game of the first half of the season for both teams on Nov. 29 by a score of 65-61.Â
The Dinos now hold a .500 record with five wins and five losses with their five game win-streak snapped. Brandon's win gives them their second win to improve to 2-8.Â
For the Bobcats, Emerick Ravier scored a game-high 19 points in Brandon's win and recorded seven rebounds. Ilarion Bonhomme followed that up with 14 points of his own and Jordan Reaves recorded 11. Kenonte Ramsey also hit double digits with 12 points and he had six rebounds.Â
The first points of the game didn't come until two minutes in, and they came from Letkeman. He didn't stop there, in the first five minutes, the forward scored six points and would be leading all scorers after the first. The Dinos led the Bobcats 19-12.
In the second, Calgary's lead grew to 11 points but Brandon began to chip away slowly throughout the quarter. Seven points from Ravier already allowed the Bobcats to cut the lead down to five with a three-pointer.Â
The Dinos lead was just three points at the end of the half and Letkeman was one rebound away from a double-double.Â
After the half time break, the Bobcats quickly tied the score at 35 with a quick three-pointer. From there, it took about four minutes before another team put some points up as the defence picked up on both ends of the court. The Bobcats continued to flirt with the lead, looking to overtake it, and they finally did at 42-41.Â
With Ogungbemi-Jackson on the bench in foul trouble, the Dinos had trouble scoring some baskets and were outshot 15-8 in the third quarter. Another three from the Bobcats at the buzzer gave them a 47-43 lead heading into the final quarter. Ravier now had 17 points for Brandon.
In the fourth, a number of lead changes made for an entertaining final quarter. A three pointer for Turner gave the Dinos a temporary lead, but it wouldn't last long as the Bobcats responded with one of their own.Â
Tied at 55 and 58, both teams fought for the lead, but it was eventually Brandon who came up with some big points in the final minutes. Up 63-60 with two free throws with 27 second left, Brandon held on through a flurry of timeouts and intentional fouls to grab the 65-61 win.Â
Calgary will take on the UNBC Timberwolves on Jan. 9 to begin the second half of the season and then face the Mount Royal Cougars in another installment of the Crowchild Classic on Jan. 11.
