Brandon University Dick and Verda McDonald Sports Wall of Fame
Basketball coach, Resident Master, geology teacher and College President, Dr. JRC Evans was wholeheartedly committed to Brandon College. His parents sent him to attend high school at the college in 1907 and except for three years at the University of Chicago earning his PhD, he never left. His complete dedication to sports, education, students, faculty and staff make him a fitting candidate for the Wall of Fame.
Â
Evans was made Honourary President of their Athletic Association and he began a career in coaching basketball from 1923-24 to 1956. Coach Evans was working tirelessly to pay the bills, feed students and keep faculty for whom there were no wage guarantees.
Â
He instilled the values of hard work, sportsmanship and team play. Dr. Evans passed away in 1959, but his legacy lives on at Brandon University. A large structure theatre on campus is named in his honour and the Alumni Association administers the J.R.C. Evans Emergency Loan Fund, which offers emergency financial assistance to needy students.
