Brandon University Athletics

As most referees will tell you, officiating is a thankless job. Russ Roney officiated basketball for more than 40 years and for that reason alone, Roney should get a medal for perseverance, if not bravery.
 
The Brandon University Bobcat men’s basketball program recognizes this and Roney’s induction to the Hall of Fame is BU’s way of saying thanks. What many people may not realize, is that the retired local school teacher both played and coached at Brandon College and was also involved extensively with local hoop development at the high school level as well.
 
Roney is also a recipient of the J.A. Wilcox Award of Merit for referees in Canada as well as the MHSAA award for dedicated service to high school athletics.
 
Russ was born and raised in Brandon. He played, coached and refereed his basketball in the Wheat City. He is truly a worthy local recipient for this Brandon University honour.
