Brandon University Dick and Verda McDonald Sports Wall of Fame
John Carson’s time as a Brandon Bobcat can only be described as legendary. During his tenure at Brandon University, Carson rewrote the scoring record books. He amassed a total of 4,329 points over five seasons as a Bobcat and is the only player in the history of the CIAU or CIS to be named a five-time first-team All-Canadian. John was the first of three Bobcat players to be honoured as the Mike Moser Recipient for the most outstanding player in the country. John led the Bobcats to their first national championship in 1987 and was named Finals MVP.
John went on to play professional basketball in Ireland and in the World Basketball League with the Calgary 88’s and the Saskatchewan Slam. John became the first Bobcat player to have his uniform retired.
For his efforts, Carson has been inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and has been nominated for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.
