Sandra Hamilton came to Brandon in 1990 as a college transfer with little fanfare at the time of her arrival, but it wouldn’t take long for her to establish herself as one of the premier players in women’s university hoops.

Hamilton became the second All-Canadian in Bobcat women’s basketball history behind Janet Lumsden, whose records Sandra would chase down her entire career as a Bobcat.

Sandra was spectacular in 1991-92, averaging 22.4 points per game en route to the GPAC MVP award, a first-team All-Canadian nod, as well as being named runner up for the Nan Copp Award as the most outstanding player in CIAU. She would add a second-team All-Canadian nod in 1992-93.

On top of her national recognition, Hamilton was also named BU’s outstanding female athlete all three years she played for the Bobcats.

Following her BU days, Hamilton played pro basketball in Spain and England as well as getting multiple try-outs with several teams in the WNBA.

Following her outstanding university career, Sandra also won the illustrious Harry Jerome award as Canada’s best black female athlete in 1993.
