Mike Spack has been involved in basketball for some 65 years. Mike played the game at all levels. He was captain of three consecutive championship teams at St. John’s high school in Winnipeg, played on one of the top senior teams in the country and represented Canada at a 1954 World Cup Championship tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Spack has coached all levels of teams in Winnipeg and in Brandon, from high school to university (BU women) and was the first-ever commissioner for the Manitoba Basketball Association of Officials and the first-ever basketball commissioner for the Manitoba Secondary Schools Athletic Association.
 
Spack has been involved with several provincial high associations and committees and was instrumental in reviving the Brandon Senior Men’s League and introducing provincial masters play. Mike has a strong sense of community pride, has lived in Brandon for some 30 years and is a member of the Basketball Manitoba Hall of Fame. The Mike Spack Service Award for basketball was arranged by his peers in 1968 and is presented each year at the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association in reocognition of his services to basketball.
