Brandon University Dick and Verda McDonald Sports Wall of Fame
A product of Halifax, Lumsden came to Brandon and quickly established her stardom with the Bobcats as a dominating point/swing guard. During her tenure with the Bobcats, Janet was honoured as an All-Canadian each year (three years as 1st team and one as 2nd team).
She was also honoured each year as a GPAC all-star and established the BU Bobcat scoring record that still stands today. She averaged a phenomenal 27 points per game over her career at BU. Janet’s talents also resulted in a tryout for the Canadian Olympic team and a one-year professional stint in England.
Lumsden's involvement extended beyond the court as she participated every year in public relations and assisted in developmental leagues and camps during her college years.
Janet went on to coach the Bobcats for three years and befpre moving to Arizona to teach and coach at the high school level. As a teacher, she has received many awards, including: “Outstanding Leadership of Autism Children”, Autism Society, 2002: “Teacher of the Year”, State of Arizona, 1999; and “Teacher of the Year”, Autism Society in 1997.
